why did it happend?

⋅ Xerxes I, the successor of Darius I, Had invaded Greece in hopes of accomplishing what his predecessor didn't and it was to succesfully invade Greece. he sent heralds to Greek cities, but he skipped over Athens and Sparta because of their previous responses.

Who was the cause?

⋅ Leonidas, The king of Sparta

⋅ King Xerxes had asked or implored the king of Sparta, Leonidas, to Surrender but had refused to do so, hence why the Persian army started to move towards Thermopylae.

Who attacked first?

⋅ The Persian Army

⋅ The Persians soon launched a frontal assault, in waves of around 10,000 men, on the Greek position. The Greeks fought in front of the Phocian wall, at the narrowest part of the pass, which enabled them to use as few soldiers as possible. King Leonidas held the battle for 3 days with only hundreds of Hoplites against thousands of Persian soldiers.

Who won?

⋅ The army of King Xerxes I

⋅ All of the Spartans had died thanks to the vile greek traitor named ephialtes, and the Persians won the Battle of Thermopylae. However, Xerxes' army suffered terrible losses as well, and thanks to Leonidas' and the 300 Spartans' sacrifice, the majority of the Greek troops and ships were able to escape to the Isthmus of Corinth.
